3/23/2010
The recent implosion of the Real Estate and Financial markets has been quite a harsh wake-up call for everyone. No one understands the resulting pinch better than CFO’s & CIO’s that are forced to “do more with less” in order for their companies to survive. Interestingly enough, the wake-up call has coincided with the emergence of “Cloud Computing” as viable and cost-effective IT solution. By R. Byron Attridge, Jr., ClubDrive Systems Inc.

White Paper: E-Book: 10 Everyday Things Your Data Backup System Should Do
11/20/2009
Backing up data from a desktop, laptop or server sounds simple enough. You just copy your data from your system to someplace else; a backup tape, a central server, a second disk, an off-site SAN, a CD, a flash drive – you get the idea. By SonicWALL

Storage Enclosure Reliability: Analysis Of Various Enclosure Configurations With Implications On Data Reliability And Resulting Backup Applicability
11/19/2009
When the failure of an external storage device occurs, it’s important to distinguish whether the enclosure has failed, or a hard drive inside it. If only the enclosure fails, it’s a simple matter of moving the hard drive(s) to another enclosure or repairing the enclosure, after which the hard drive(s) contained therein will once again be functional. This is a critical concept for discussing the overall reliability of hard drives, which shall be covered in later chapters of this paper. By James Wiebe, CEO, WiebeTech LLC

White Paper: Age-In-Place Storage: When Not To Tier And Migrate Active Data
11/12/2009
We acknowledge the changes in file reference behavior are subtle, consistent, and
complex. There are two ways to “look” at any file on a Unix file system4. The most
common is with the file’s path and name, which is exactly what people and most
programs do when they open or close a file as we look at a directory structure. Even
so, names are not used to mange files. By Randy Chalfant
