VKernel Launches Free Virtual Machine Documentation Tool

VKernel Corporation, a provider of easy-to-use and quick-to-deploy virtual server management solutions, recently launched a new free virtual machine (VM) documentation tool for VMware ESX environments. SnapshotMyVM, a standalone application, quickly documents and inventories all VMs to eliminate costly manual processes.

"Documenting physical servers is one of a system administrator's least desirable and time-consuming tasks. In a virtual data center, it becomes even more challenging as the environment is dynamic, and static documentation quickly becomes outdated," said Alex Bakman, founder and CEO of VKernel. "SnapshotMyVM automates this process, making it extremely easy and efficient to identify, document, and inventory all VMs in the virtual data center."

SnapshotMyVM is a quick-to-deploy, standalone Windows application. Within minutes, the free tool completely automates the time-consuming documentation process, collects dozens of important VM attributes, and creates detailed reports. Users can export their documentation to XML formatted files to save, edit, customize, archive, and share them with others. Some the information SnapshotMyVM collects, includes:

  • VM name
  • Guest operating system
  • Host hardware type, manufacturer, and version
  • VM resource (CPU, memory, storage, network) configurations
  • VM resource utilization statistics (save a week of historical data)

SnapshotMyVM is the third free tool from VKernel to help system administrators overcome the day-to-day challenges of successfully managing and growing their VMware environments. Other free tools offered by VKernel include the "Google-like" search utility, SearchMyVM and the CompareMyVM community site where users learn how to right-size VMs.
