Viking Technology Launches Next Generation ArxCis-NV, Storage Class Memory For Enterprise Applications
Viking Technology delivers battery-free, non-volatile DDR3 memory to standard x86 servers.
Viking Technology, a leading global provider and manufacturer of innovative DRAM technology and solid state drive (SSD) solutions, recently announced the launch of its next-generation DDR3 ArxCis-NV. This new product is a DDR3 non-volatile DIMM that provides a battery-free, storage class memory (SCM) solution to a host of enterprise applications. The ArxCis-NV is considered a high availability solution, engineered for disaster recovery by protecting data in memory from power failure.
"Our enterprise OEM customers are leveraging this persistent memory solution in a variety of applications, adding significant value to their products," said Adrian Proctor, vice president of marketing at Viking Technology. "ArxCis-NV's high speed non-volatile memory was developed through our extensive experience in both DRAM and SSD technology to create a hybrid solution that leverages the speed and endurance of DDR3 memory, seamlessly integrated with the non-volatile storage retention of flash memory."
Viking Technology's ArxCis-NV provides protection for enterprise RAID applications and main memory persistence for a host of virtualized applications that require data security in the event of power failure. These new modules eliminate the need for battery backup units (BBU), delivering a more stable, maintenance-free, and cost-effective solution.
"Data centers have addressed certain needs in the past by using battery-backed DRAM, an approach that leaves most data center managers feeling vulnerable," said Jim Handy analyst for Objective Analysis. "This altogether new approach will not only allay these concerns, but should also open the door to new computing architectures based on the concept of nonvolatile DIMMs that operate at DRAM speeds."
Batteries are constructed of heavy metals and must be recycled. They regularly need to go through the arduous steps of conditioning to remain fully functional and require replacement on an annual basis. Batteries that have not been maintained correctly are at risk of not being able to secure the data during a power outage.
Key ArxCis-NV features include:
- Standard DDR3 DIMM Interface
- 2GB to 8GB Capacities
- JEDEC Mechanical & Electrical Compliance
- Backup to SLC-flash
- Significant performance increase over PCIe based solutions
- 10-year data retention
- 100% data security
- No recurring maintenance costs
- Battery-free
- Zero scheduled downtime
Compatibility and Integration
The ArxCis-NV easily integrates into industry standard x86 motherboards. The ArxCis-NV functions in the host environment as a JEDEC standard DDR3 Registered DIMM. In the event of power failure, or a host driven command, the ArxCis-NV will save all data in the DRAM to the SLC-flash; upon power being restored, the data is written back to the DRAM ready for the system to access immediately following boot-up.
Availability
The ArxCis-NV is currently available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities, using SLC-flash to back up the data. Other options include a variety of super-capacitor pack energy capacity, depending upon application demands.
