PowerFile's Active Archive Appliance™ enables two aerospace giants to permanently store thousands of complex, three dimensional, scanned objects.

A dinosaur trapped in an 8,000-pound rock slab: It's a compelling image. It's also one of thousands of complex, three-dimensional objects scanned for use in metal/material analysis and failure analysis. Other objects include space shuttles, rocket engines, helicopters, and aircraft components.

Jeff Anders and his team of 15 provide CT scan imaging services to the engineering and design staff of a joint venture between two industrial giants, The Boeing Company and Pratt & Whitney. The scanned images are critical to the venture's research and development work.

With the success of the joint venture, the scope of engineering activity steadily increased over time, creating a mounting demand for scanned images. Amid the growing volume of images, the team faced a considerable challenge with regard to data storage.
