Spectra Logic To Implement IBM Tape Drive

Spectra Logic today announced that it has chosen the IBM TotalStorage Ultrium Tape Drive T400F as a tape drive for the Spectra T950 tape library that was introduced earlier this month. This OEM agreement is designed to enhance Spectra Logic's ability to bring high-performance tape storage solutions to customers worldwide.

"IBM's proven record of storage innovation combined with the reliability of the LTO complements Spectra Logic's strategy to provide customers with the best products," said Nick Harper, Spectra Logic's vice president of business development. "Customers can now enjoy the higher drive capacity and performance attributes associated with LTO technology combined with extreme scalability and simplified media handling available with the Spectra T050 enterprise tape library."

The IBM TotalStorage Ultrium Tape Drive T400F is based upon second-generation LTO tape technology and is designed to provide customers with increased performance and capacity attributes over comparative LTO-based products. The drive supports both Ultra-160 SCSI LVD attachment and a 2Gb Fibre Channel attachment to help provide greater SAN versatility flexibility, scalability, performance and overall reduced cost of ownership.

The Spectra T950 library, with the Python architecture, raises the bar in technology features and end-user value in the half-inch tape market. Spectra Logic's revolutionary TeraPack delivers time savings in media handling, the industry's highest storage density, reduced robotic wear, lowering labor costs and increased library uptime, thus lowering TCO.
