Spectra Logic Ships Ten Thousandth Spectra 2K Tape Library
Spectra Logic Corporation achieved a milestone mark today as the company has sold its 10,000th Spectra 2K tape library. Originally introduced in October 1997, the Spectra 2K tape library is known for its cost effectiveness, ease of use and reliability. The library takes four toggle switches to configure and is field proven with five million hour mean time between robotics failures. Now 10,000 customers are using the tape library worldwide.
"The Spectra 2K is one of our three Spectra Logic tape libraries in production," said Lynae Bruening, network administrator of Farm Credit Services of America. "The system is used for all of our daily production system backups as well as for backing up our development and test environments. The product worked reliably under various test conditions. We were impressed by how easy it was to configure the unit."
With AIT-3, the Spectra 2K library backs up to 225 GB in an hour and stores up to 7.8 TB in 5U of rack space. Spectra Logic offers the user options to add drives and slots, move to a faster drive or upgrade to a SAN interface. Each generation of AIT is backward compatible with and double the capacity and performance of the previous generation. The entire installed base of Spectra 2K libraries will be eligible for upgrade to AIT-4 in Q3, 2004 increasing maximum throughput to 450GB/hour and capacity to 15.6TB.
"EAGLE Software only resells Spectra Logic libraries," said Dave Heichel, president of EAGLE Software. "The Spectra 2K tape library is so easy to sell and returns good margins for our company. Our customers are particularly impressed with the upgrade options, high end features and reliability in an entry level library."
Spectra 2K tape libraries are available in SCSI-2, Fibre Channel, and 1000Base-T models. Features include electronic barcode scanning, removable cartridge packs and drive modules. Spectra 2K is compatible with all major backup and archive applications, including packages offered by Veritas, Computer Associates, Legato, Syncsort, Commvault, HP, Bakbone, Novastor, Dantz, and Microsoft.
