Spectra Logic Introduces SabreDisk D500 With Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2006 For Faster Restores In Windows Environments
Spectra Logic today announced the fourth member of its Sabre family of secondary disk products, the Spectra® SabreDisk D500. The easy-to-implement, disk-based backup appliance is built on Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2006 software. The SabreDisk D500 is designed to reduce complexity and improve operational efficiency in file backup and recovery for Microsoft Windows Server environments.
The addition of the SabreDisk D500 to the Spectra product line offers customers the advantage of continuous data protection along with the option of backing up to mobile RXT SabreMedia, and archiving to tapeāall from a single vendor. The SabreDisk D500 integrates with existing backup strategies by simply adding a tier of storage for disk backup, then utilizing customers' existing tape archive software to move data to mobile RXT SabreMedia or tape for offsite data archival.
System Center Data Protection Manager 2006 is a server software application that is designed for simplified disk-based backup and recovery. Developed for Windows environments, System Center Data Protection Manager 2006 provides rapid and reliable recovery of data, point-in-time protection through byte-level replication, operational simplicity, lowered total cost of data protection, and improved efficiency.
"The SabreDisk D500 with System Center Data Protection Manager 2006 offers a standardized, reliable mechanism for backing up data to a central host, where it can also be backed up to tape for long-term retention and offsite protection," said Bill Shelton, group product manager, Windows Enterprise Management Division at Microsoft Corp. "The D500 eliminates manual processes and streamlines file backup and recovery in Windows environments."
The 3U SabreDisk D500 scales from two terabytes to eight terabytes of capacity, offers a complete data protection solution and delivers increased file backup frequency to enable user-initiated point-in-time file recovery.
"Most users store data from the Windows platform to disk, so we constantly enhance our product suite to simplify backup and recovery processes to disk as well as tape," said Matt Starr, chief technology officer at Spectra Logic. "SabreDisk D500 users will benefit from improvements like rapid and reliable recovery, efficient and near-continuous protection and increased operational simplicity."
Availability and Pricing
Spectra Logic will begin shipping the SabreDisk D500, integrated with System Center Data Protection Manager 2006, in June 2006. SabreDisk D500 pricing begins at $17,995.
