Sonian Launches Social Media And Instant Message Archiving Capabilities For User-Generated Content
Sonian, a provider of on-demand, hosted corporate data archiving powered by the cloud, recently rolled out new capabilities for its cloud-powered archiving service. The new functionality encompasses archiving of social media and instant messaging (IM) communications, ensuring that organizations can use a single solution to archive user-generated content. This allows compliance with regulatory mandates such as FINRA and FRCP, including the new FINRA regulation governing social media use, enacted in early 2010. It also aids preparedness to meet eDiscovery readiness guidelines, a crucial issue for SMBs.
Social media and IM usage for business is largely a user-driven movement, rather than one mandated by companies; nonetheless, social media and IM use are on the rise. Access to business-controlled and personal accounts has enabled real-time dialogue and results, but also means that companies need to find a way to archive—and retrieve—these communications in real time to prepare for compliance or eDiscovery queries. Sonian's hosted, cloud-based archiving service enables just that, and is affordable and scalable across any number of users and platforms in a given company.
Sonian's solution enables archiving of social media communications that take place on platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. It also allows archiving of IM communications on services such as Yahoo! Messenger, Google Chat, MSN Messenger, AIM, Microsoft Office Communications Server and other platforms. IT departments have the capability to select which personal and business accounts are relevant, and include or exclude them from archiving accordingly.
"Today, business is conducted 24/7 over many different platforms; this is the new business culture, and it's both efficient and productive," said Greg Arnette, founder and CTO of Sonian. "However, as with any migration to a new way of working, the use of social media and IM for business communications creates both opportunity and risk. That's why we integrated the ability to archive these communications into our proven archiving application to provide one-stop shopping and flawless archiving that enables companies to mitigate their risk and reap all possible benefits."
Sonian's hosted, on-demand email archiving solution spans Microsoft Exchange, Novell GroupWise and IBM Lotus, along with Web-based email applications. The ability to capture business communications over any medium, archive them in the cloud and access them in real time is a growing need, and Sonian's offering spans all key data types.
Archiving capabilities for email, social media and IM are available individually or as a package. The new solution is available immediately, and is easily deployed for archiving email, instant messaging, social media streams or any combination thereof.
