REO 9000 (Overland)
Features
High capacity—the REO 9000 uses 400
GB SATA drives and scales up to 9.6 TB per unit to address
high capacity backup applications.
High-speed performance—dual RAID controllers and dual high-speed connections to storage networks enable the REO 9000 to recover business-critical data at disk-speeds while helping to complete backups inside the backup window.
Flexible connectivity—utilizing dual GbE data ports with the option of adding dual 2 Gb Fibre Channel ports, the REO 9000 seamlessly integrates into existing storage networks.
Increased data availability—with hot-swap disk drives and power supplies, RAID 5 data protection and hot-sparing, the REO 9000 provides a high level of data availability.
Broad platform support—including Solaris,
Microsoft Windows, and Linux, coupled with support for major
third-party software applications, allows the REO 9000 to
operate across a broad base of storage environments.

Whether you want to simply add disk to your backup strategy, increase the speed of backup and recovery, implement long-distance, cost-effective disaster recovery solutions, or reduce your reliance on tape in the backup process, the Overland Storage REO 9000 with ProtectionPAC is the right solution. From an industry leader with over 23 years in the data protection business, the REO 9000 is the ideal choice for storage managers who want disk-speed data recovery, a cure for out-of-control backup windows and a method for improving the reliability of backup operations.
The REO 9000 is a shared-storage resource that improves the speed and efficiency of existing tape-based backup environments. Capable of storing up to 9.6 TB of data, it uses RAID 5 disk storage to increase backup reliability while providing near instantaneous recovery of files. Support for both iSCSI and Fibre Channel connections enables easy integration into existing SAN environments, while Overland’s ProtectionPAC software provides the flexibility to create virtual storage devices as needed to make the best use of total available capacity.
ProtectionPAC software allows a user to configure the REO 9000 into any combination of virtual tape devices and disk LUNs. The ability to dynamically size virtual tape drives to the size of individual backup jobs further increases storage efficiency by eliminating the wasted space incurred when emulating fixed length tape cartridges. By storing tape images that are tailored to the size of the backup job, Overland allows users to access a significantly larger percentage of the available storage capacity.
Most important, the REO 9000 works with existing backup applications that were designed to support tape devices, providing users with a single backup catalog and a single media management system. This seamless compatibility allows easy deployment and integration into existing backup environments. As a result, REO 9000 users can quickly benefit from the ability to achieve rapid recovery of backup data from disk while continuing to rely on tape for long-term archival storage.
PowerPac Software Features include:
Flexible virtual device support—provides
the ability for each virtual device to be configured as a disk LUN
or virtual tape drive, up to 64 total devices, enabling storage
managers to implement a solution that most closely matches their
current and future data protection requirements.
Dynamic Virtual Tape—provides the ability to dynamically size virtual tape drives to the size of individual backup jobs, providing higher usable capacity versus fixed length virtual tape devices.
Browser based management—provides proactive monitoring capability, event notification and remote management capability. The REO 9000 allows you to easily manage your backup and recovery process from a location that’s convenient for you.
