QStar Technologies Announces Support For UDO Optical Archive Technology
QStar, a leading storage management solution provider, today announced the full support of Plasmon's new UDO Drive and library technology within their HSM and Data Director products for use with Microsoft WindowsNT/2000, Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Irix and Tru-64 operating systems.
The QStar software seamlessly presents UDO libraries as a standard file system on all supported platforms. There is no limitation on file sizes and file systems can be dynamically expanded to meet the changing capacity requirements of enterprise archives. The architecture of the QStar software is designed for transparent integration into a wide range of Electronic Content Management, Information Life Cycle Management and Email Archival Applications. QStar has hundreds of optical archives installed worldwide in industries including: banking, insurance, medical, government, broadcast, manufacturing, and utilities.
Riccardo Finotti - QStar President, commented "Not only does UDO offer tremendous advantages for new customers, the solution enables existing customers to leverage their current investment in Magneto Optical. With QStar software, our extensive G-Series installed customer base can easily expand their archives to include UDO technology while continuing to access all their data written on previous generation optical media."
30GB UDO optical media has been specifically designed to meet the demanding needs of long-term data archival storage. Available in true Write Once and Rewritable media format, UDO complies with industry and governmental regulations that require data authenticity over decades of storage. QStar's HSM and Data Director support Plasmon G-Series Libraries "Powered by UDO", which provide storage capacities ranging from 720GB to almost 20TB of professional archival storage.
"We're very pleased to see QStar announce full support for UDO so quickly after the release of the product", said Nigel Street, Plasmon's CEO. "The industry response to UDO has been very positive since it offers the data authentication, media longevity and low TCO attributes so important for enterprise archives. QStar is an important UDO Partner and plays a strategic role in satisfying customer demands by providing professional archival storage solutions."
Todd Deveney – QStar VP of US Sales said "QStar support for UDO Technology allows us to deliver a great advantage to our customers when it comes to legislative compliance and secure long term archiving." Deveney went on to say "Having UDO support is a critical component for our partners that deliver a wide range of applications across many industries."
