QStar, a leading storage management solution provider, today announced the full support of Sony's new ProDATA technology within their HSM and Data Director products for use with Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP/2003, Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Irix, and Tru64 operating systems.
The QStar software seamlessly integrates ProDATA drives allowing applications to access large volumes of storage as a standard file system on all of QStar's supported platforms. There is no limitation on file sizes and file systems can be dynamically expanded to meet the changing capacity requirements of enterprise archives. The architecture of the QStar software is designed for transparent integration into a wide range of high capacity, long-term storage applications. QStar has many hundreds of optical archives installed worldwide in industries including: banking, insurance, medical, government, broadcast, manufacturing, and utilities.
Riccardo Finotti, QStar President, commented "We are delighted to work with Sony and their ProDATA product as this allows us to offer our customers greater choice and flexibility to deliver solutions demanded by users."
Sony's ProDATA drive is the world's first 120mm blue laser based optical recording drive for business and professional applications. The drive uses a 23 GB single sided optical disk encased within a cartridge. The drive has an Ultra 160 LVD/SE SCSI interface providing high-speed data access. It is also equipped with a 16MB cache that effectively reduces the load on the CPU when writing to disc, and with a read ahead capability it improves performance when accessing data.
"We're very pleased to announce full support for ProDATA. It is important to our product portfolio and to our customers that we support all the major technologies from all of the major vendors," said Todd Deveney, QStar's Vice President of Sales. "QStar's mission is to make all archiving technology available on all platforms to all users. We have once again demonstrated our objective and upheld our mission statement allowing ProDATA to now be deployed industry wide for the most demanding of applications."
