Pacific Coast Companies Replaces Veritas With LEGATO Software For Enterprise Data Protection

Source: Legato Software - A Division of EMC

LEGATO Software, a division of EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), today announced that Pacific Coast Companies, Inc., a leading California-based construction and building supplies group, has replaced Veritas NetBackup and standardized on LEGATO NetWorker for the backup and recovery of its corporate information. After transitioning from Veritas to LEGATO Software as part of an environmental upgrade, the company has seen immediate and significant backup and recovery performance increases -- improving efficiency, lowering costs, and reducing failures within their environment.

Pacific Coast Companies was using Veritas NetBackup for the backup and protection of a large SAP R/3 environment, handing critical supply chain management and business warehouse information. More than 3000 employees across 78 offices rely on this system daily. The solution did not meet the company's performance requirements, and the backup and recovery speed further degraded over time.

After attempts to service the system by Veritas failed, Pacific Coast Companies turned to LEGATO Software to protect its valuable information assets. By adding LEGATO NetWorker to the new upgraded environment, the system performed three times faster than the Veritas system it replaced.

Michael O'Dell, chief information officer, Pacific Coast Companies said, "There is only so much time in the day for back up – our Veritas solution was performing at a rate much lower than they promised, and much lower than we needed. Now that we've standardized on LEGATO NetWorker, we're finally experiencing the return on investment we expect from our data protection solution. More importantly, LEGATO Software has always delivered on its promises – providing backup at a speed that exceeded our expectations through a much clearer licensing arrangement and better maintenance fee structure."

NetWorker provides Pacific Coast Companies with a fast, stable, and easy to use backup solution. The company now spends less time managing backups and more time responding to the needs of its customers. The addition of NetWorker has also greatly reduced its backup window. Backup processing no longer bleeds into peak work hours when infrastructure resources are at a premium.

This customer example demonstrates LEGATO's technology leadership in data protection. Arun Taneja, founder and consulting analyst for Taneja Group stated, "LEGATO continues to make inroads into competitive territory with its disk backup option. We believe that the market timing of LEGATO's enhancements to its product line, position NetWorker to regain its technology leadership position and more importantly, win significant market share from the competition."
