Nirvanix Continues Corporate Expansion With Hiring Of CTO

Nirvanix, the premier "Cloud Storage" platform provider, recently announced that Patrick Ritto, a 20-year veteran of the streaming media, storage and networking industries, has joined its senior management staff as Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering. He reports directly to company CEO Patrick Harr.

Ritto joins Nirvanix from Internap Network Services, where he served as Vice President of Content Distribution Network and Advertising Engineering and Quality Assurance programs for the $234M global technology firm. There he led development of high-quality, rich media delivery via the Internet, including live and on-demand, mobile-enabled streaming audio and video. He came to Internap after the acquisition of VitalStream Inc. where he was CTO, leading product engineering, network operations, data center operations, IT and customer support. As CTO, Ritto oversaw the international expansion of content delivery network and scaled the platform to meet the rapidly escalating demands of user-generated content and online media monetization.

Prior to VitalStream, Ritto was the Director of Software Engineering at Overland Storage Inc., leading all software and firmware development for the company's disk- and tape-based backup appliances. Before Overland, Ritto served 15 years at Oracle Corporation including several senior engineering management roles such as co-founding the Automatic Storage Management team and as Director of Engineering for the Interactive Television Division, where he successfully launched several pioneering releases of the Oracle Video Server suite of products. Automatic Storage Management (ASM) is clustered storage technology behind Oracle Database 10g grid architecture today.

"Nirvanix has built a remarkable globally clustered storage platform and has grown very quickly. I am thrilled to join and lead this talented engineering department as we continue to demonstrate firsts in ability to scale, provide cloud storage innovation and hasten the movement of storage from the data center to the Internet," said Ritto. "Further, this gives me a unique ability to combine my experience in building complex mission critical file systems at Oracle and highly scalable distribution networks at VitalStream/Internap."

"Patrick has deep experience and knowledge in the fields of storage, networking, streaming media and databases and that level of talent will allow him to improve our service for customers looking to leverage our storage platform to improve their own businesses," said Harr. "We are pleased to have Patrick join the senior team and ensure our position as the premier Cloud Storage Platform provider."

A patent holder for "storage access keys," Ritto earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
