Neverfail Helps VectorVest Keep Its Business-Critical "Assets" Up And Running
Stock Analysis Company Invests Its Stock in Neverfail
Neverfail, a leading global software company specializing in affordable continuous availability and disaster recovery solutions, recebtly announced that VectorVest, headquartered in Akron, Ohio, uses Neverfail to protect its databases that house real-time stock analysis and portfolio management data.
VectorVest, with operations also in Cornelius, N.C., produces software that uses mathematical models to analyze, rank and graph more than 18,300 stocks for value, safety and timing on a daily basis. VectorVest's software gives users a complete picture of every stock, and then issues a "Buy," "Sell" or "Hold" recommendation on each. The company relies on Microsoft SQL Server to support its stock analysis and portfolio management system in "real-time." For users of the real-time solution, stock data and analysis availability is critical.
Investing happens in real time, so it was necessary to have real-time protection. VectorVest had been using database mirroring to protect its backend servers, but found the process led to performance issues and other hassles. For example, log-intensive operations such as re-indexing proved problematic when it came to disk space. In addition, the process was largely manual, as VectorVest had to manually reconfigure all servers during a failover and system databases had to be manually mirrored.
"We had frequent issues with our SQL server, but with thousands of data points updated on a continual basis, we had to keep it up and running no matter what," said Chris Schau, manager of information technology at VectorVest. "Finding a high availability solution was critical to keeping us in business."
VectorVest has already had to use Neverfail several times, beginning about a week after it was first installed, when the SSD cards failed. Previously, this failure would have led to several hours of downtime for VectorVest, instead of the few minutes it took for Neverfail to successfully fail over. During other outages, Neverfail has failed over perfectly, leading to very minimal downtime.
"The peace of mind that Neverfail provides is invaluable," says Schau. "We can sleep at night knowing our data is always protected and our business will keep on running, no matter what challenge is thrown our way."
"Unlike humans, the stock market never sleeps. Likewise, Neverfail is designed to provide round-the-clock protection for business critical applications," said Bob Roudebush, vice president of marketing of Neverfail. "We make routine maintenance extremely easy, by reducing planned downtime, so companies like VectorVest can assure its users that they have invested their trust in a reliable source for analyzing their financial investments."
