Data ONTAP GX Systems Data ONTAP GX systems are fully integrated, multinode solutions designed to meet the needs of the most demanding applications in high-performance computing (HPC). Based on Data ONTAP GX software, these systems are offered as scale-out configurations with FAS3050 and FAS6070 building blocks.

Extreme Performance and Modular Scalability
Data ONTAP GX systems offer the ability to scale from 2 to 24 FAS3050 and/or FAS6070 controllers and multiple petabytes of capacity while maintaining a single system image. As system nodes are added, performance scales linearly to match the requirements of extremely large Linux® and UNIX® clusters, which demand multiple gigabytes per second of aggregate NFS throughput. The ability to move data transparently between all system nodes is provided to optimize workloads and eliminate storage "hot spots." Extreme throughput for a single volume or file can be achieved with the FlexVol™ high-performance option, which allows volumes to be striped across any or all system nodes.

Ease of Management
Data ONTAP GX systems are fully integrated solutions that are easy to install, manage, and maintain. All system nodes are integrated into a global namespace, which can be scaled up to 6PB. The global namespace provides a single access point for all data in the system. Since Data ONTAP GX systems do not require installation of client-side software, complexity is greatly reduced. Scaling performance or capacity, data movement between system nodes, and load balancing can all be accomplished while the Data ONTAP GX system is running without interruption of client applications.

High Reliability
Data ONTAP GX systems deliver excellent reliability relative to other scale-out alternatives. Data ONTAP GX leverages the same core system software (WAFL®) that has been proven in over 60,000 installations and similarly leverages other proven technologies from the widely installed NetApp Data ONTAP 7G. In addition, key high-availability features such as Double Parity RAID (RAID-DP) and transparent node failover further ensure data availability.
