Mimosa NearPoint Enables eDiscovery, Eliminates Mailbox Quotas, And Strengthens Disaster Recovery For North America's Largest Resort And Casino

Mimosa Systems, a leader in Live Content Archiving solutions, today announced that Foxwoods Resort Casino, North America's largest casino, is in the process of deploying the next-generation Mimosa NearPoint content archiving solution to retain, retrieve, and recover the casino's vital email data.

Connecticut-based Foxwoods Resort Casino comprises six casinos offering 340,000 square feet of gaming space, with more than 7,000 slot machines and 400 tables for 17 different types of games in a complex that covers 4.7 million square feet. The resort includes 1,416 guest rooms and suites, plus more than 55,000 square feet of meeting space and 25 conference rooms. Foxwoods recently opened the MGM Grand at Foxwoods, featuring significantly increased hotel, entertainment, restaurant, and gaming venues, as well as enhanced corporate retreat, meeting, and convention resources.

"We've been experiencing tremendous growth and are growing significantly this year," said Aaron Tetlow, manager of enterprise systems, Foxwoods Resort Casino. "We've been adding Exchange servers to cope with email proliferation, tacking on more every year. Because of the large amount of historical data we need to access, we knew that quotas wouldn't be a good fit for us. We needed a better, more long-term approach to dealing with the explosion of email. Following an ROI analysis, we determined that deploying Mimosa NearPoint would enable us to remove mailbox quotas -- and receive rapid ROI."

NearPoint will also help Foxwoods to maximize its storage hardware investment by de-duplicating the email archive, removing the I/O burden from its Exchange servers, and ensuring that the resort's vital email data would be protected in the event of a disaster.

"Mimosa NearPoint has the capability to scale seamlessly as we grow. We expect to see continued growth in the future, so we needed a long-term solution that would scale with us," Tetlow said, noting that in the future Foxwoods plans to add the PST option to help deal with the growing volume of PST files.

Other Mimosa NearPoint features that were particularly important to Foxwoods Resort Casino included:

  • Automated Exchange Storage Management: Mimosa NearPoint moves content to the NearPoint archive based on policies of age and size, which has reduced the resort's storage requirements. The NearPoint Mailbox Extension feature allows the Foxwoods IT staff to define archive policies while still providing users with unlimited access to their email.
  • Continuous Capture and Archiving of Exchange Data: NearPoint preserves all Exchange information, including metadata, emails, folders, deletions, calendars, contacts, notes, and tasks, enabling administrators to quickly identify relevant content during an eDiscovery event or in response to a disclosure request.
  • Simple "One-Click" Recovery: Users can restore individual messages themselves via Outlook, and administrators can restore complete mailboxes and databases with simple "one-click" operations.

"With Mimosa's content archiving solution in place, Foxwoods will eliminate email quotas while centrally managing retention policy for email communication, which is critical to a fast-growing organization like Foxwoods," said T.M. Ravi, CEO of Mimosa Systems.
