Maranti Networks Hires Former McData Executive James Kuenzel as VP of Engineering

Maranti Networks, provider of intelligent application-aware storage-networking solutions, today announced the appointment of James Kuenzel, former vice president of engineering at McDATA Corp. (Nasdaq: MCDT), to the vice president of engineering post at Maranti and also announced the promotion of vice president of software engineering Santosh Lolayekar to the company's chief technology officer (CTO) position. Maranti's technology leadership, strong customer traction, and great progress in product development have increased the company's ability to attract leading industry talent like Kuenzel, which strengthens the management team and enhances Maranti's ability to deliver application-aware storage-networking solutions.

With over 25 years of technical and management experience at data and storage network companies, Kuenzel brings to Maranti proven success at developing and delivering enterprise-class network technology solutions for such industry notables as McDATA, Cabletron Systems, and Digital Equipment. In his new position at Maranti, Kuenzel is responsible for managing the overall engineering development effort - including the hardware, software, and product assurance functions - supporting Maranti's plans for product availability in 2003.

In his new CTO role, Lolayekar is responsible for managing the company's overall technology roadmap, driving the product architecture, and working closely with Maranti's partners and customers. As the founding vice president of software engineering at Maranti, he drove the overall product architecture and software development. Lolayekar brings to his new role engineering and networking experience from Cisco, Shomiti Systems, and Scientific and Engineering Software.

"Maranti is stronger today through the addition of Jim and the promotion of Santosh. Jim has an impressive track record in the development and delivery of storage networking technology for the enterprise. His comprehensive experience and industry insight will be invaluable as Maranti Networks continues to deliver a new class of intelligent application-aware storage networking solutions," said Kuldeep Sandhu, co-founder, president and CEO of Maranti Networks. "Santosh has been instrumental in driving Maranti's architecture and engineering development. In the CTO role, he will be able to focus on the advancement of application-aware storage infrastructures and Maranti's technology roadmap."

Kuenzel most recently served as vice president of engineering at McDATA, where he was responsible for development of the enterprise-class to low-end storage area network (SAN) switch development for Global 2000 businesses. Prior to McDATA, Kuenzel was vice president of engineering at Cabletron Systems, where he successfully managed several diverse groups that delivered switching and wireless technology for the enterprise. He also held management and technical positions at Digital Equipment, including vice president of engineering for the Network Products Group, where he successfully managed a variety of development organizations delivering products ranging from high-end enterprise backbone switches and routers to low-end switches and network interface cards (NIC).

"I am delighted to join such a talented team whose vision and execution address the critical enterprise network storage requirements," said Kuenzel. "I am excited about playing an integral role within Maranti Networks to deliver application-aware storage networking solutions to the marketplace, and I look forward to being at the cutting edge of developing technologies and architectures that will drive Maranti's growth in the industry."
