iStor Networks Announces Support Of New Seagate Barracuda ES.2 SAS Hard Drives

istor

iStor Networks, Inc., a leader in high performance iSCSI solutions, recently announces that it has started shipping integraStor iS512 storage systems featuring Seagate Barracuda?ES.2 SAS-series drives. This new high-capacity drive technology optimizes performance, power savings, capacity and cost while greatly reducing the complexity of migration to High Availability (HA) since the drive has a native SAS interface.

integraStor iS512 customers now have three disk drive types to chose from: SATA, high-capacity SAS, and high-performance SAS. The first two types offer higher capacity and affordability, while the second two types offer seamless upgrades to dual-controller configurations.

Prior to the availability of this new class of drives, the only alternative for utilizing high-capacity drives in a dual controller environment was to incorporate an interposer between the controllers and each drive. Incorporating these additional elements into the data stream inherently increased cost, impacted performance and introduced additional points of failure in the critical drive path.

"iStor is proud to support the world's first 1TB hard drive with native SAS interfaces, and iStor's technology leadership positions the iS512 to address the capacity explosion of critical data storage requirements that permeates small and medium business environments today." said Robert Friend, Director of Product Marketing at iStor Networks.

iStor has developed its business by providing flexible, high-performance, easy-to-use iSCSI storage. Utilizing 1TB SAS drives now benefits customers with high-capacity, resilient storage for affordable HA solutions, which is essential in the small and medium business market.

"Seagate's Barracuda ES.2 family of drives will help benefit iStor's customers for a range of tier 2 storage applications including rich media content storage and collaboration," said Henry Fabian, Seagate executive director of Marketing, Enterprise Compute Business. "By introducing the new Barracuda ES.2 SAS option, customers can gain an average performance increase of 135% over SATA with lower Watts/IOPs utilization, which ultimately enables a wider range of application uses when both transactional performance and high capacity are required."

Offering the latest drive technology clearly illustrates the value of iStor's technology leadership as iStor broadens its market footprint. These new drives will further extend the range of cost-effective iSCSI storage solutions that iStor provides to its customers.
