Intelligent Switches: QLogic Announces SANbox 9000 Series Director Switches Available From Hitachi Data Systems
QLogic Corp. the leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs), stackable switches and blade server switches, recently announced that its enterprise class SANbox 9000 Series Fibre Channel director switches are now available from Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. and authorized Hitachi Data Systems resellers. The SANbox 9000 Series is a new class of director switch that takes less rack space, power and cooling than any other director switch available, all at a fraction of the cost.
With the addition of the SANbox 9000 director, which has completed rigorous qualification testing with a suite of Hitachi Data Systems enterprise and mid-range storage systems, Hitachi Data Systems now offers the complete QLogic Fibre Channel switch portfolio which includes the SANbox 1400 and 5600 Series.
"The Hitachi Data Systems tradition of empowering its customers with the ability to implement best-of-breed storage networking solutions continues with the availability of SANbox 9000 director switches to its global base of enterprise customers," said Jesse Parker, vice president and general manager, QLogic Network Solutions Group. "QLogic has raised the bar for director switches with the SANbox 9000, delivering unsurpassed ease-of-use and greater price-per-port value than any competitive offering."
"Our enterprise customers value reliability, performance and support for their heterogeneous storage network environments," said Steve TenBarge, vice president, Global Product Marketing, Hitachi Data Systems. "The SANbox 9000 Series delivers director level performance in a compact form factor that requires very little power consumption—adding to our lineup of eco-friendly storage solutions."
SANbox 9000 Series Switches - Designed to the Core for Open Systems
Finally, there's a new class of core switch that represents a sane alternative to quarter million dollar director switches. The SANbox 9000 Series is Designed to the Core for cost-sensitive, business-critical, open system environments that require ultra high density, blazing performance and intelligent switching for their data center core. The SANbox 9000 architecture represents a number of industry firsts: a 4U modular chassis for a smaller footprint and cost-effective scalability, customer replaceable units (CRUs) to eliminate costly service calls, a 10Gb core-to-edge "backbone" enabling seamless inter-switch SAN performance scaling and a comprehensive set of core switch software management tools included as standard.
