Imation Launches First VXA And LTO-Enabled ComplianceVault System For E-Mail Archiving

Imation Corp., a worldwide leader in removable data storage media, today announced it will launch with its partners, Intradyn and Exabyte, the industry's first VXA and LTO-enabled ComplianceVault e-mail archiving appliance, a completely integrated hardware and software solution that archives businesses' e-mail messages on a continuous basis, from a virtually unlimited number of mailboxes.

"Intradyn is pleased to be working with Imation to integrate our ComplianceVault technology into a robust solution featuring Exabyte VXA and LTO tape automation," said Gary Doan, CEO and co-founder, Intradyn. "Imation's sales and marketing focus, specifically with small to medium businesses, will be important in helping further the success of the ComplianceVault technology and future product solutions."

"Many of our small business customers have indicated a desire to implement an e-mail archiving solution, but have held off due to cost or complexity. The Imation ComplianceVault archiving appliance is a simple yet effective solution that can be implemented in less than an hour at prices starting under ten thousand dollars," said Brent Ashton, U.S. marketing manager, small-and-medium business, Imation. "Imation delivers a portfolio of removable media products and solutions on all four pillars of data storage – magnetic tape, optical, flash memory and hard disk drives. The Imation ComplianceVault solution is an example of Imation's ability to integrate across multiple pillars to help simplify our customers' storage processes and meet critical business needs."

When the Imation ComplianceVault solution is connected to an organization's network, all e-mail messages are immediately and continuously saved and indexed to disk, in addition to being archived and indexed to tape at intervals specific to the needs of the company. The appliance is a complete, all-in-one, bundled solution with a single upfront cost, unlike competitive offerings that require customers to pay ongoing per-user license fees and software maintenance costs.

"Imation's ComplianceVault solution was a perfect fit for our e-mail archiving requirements," said Tom Quanbeck, president, Bailiwick Data Systems Inc., a Minnesota-based company that specializes in the deployment of IT solutions. "With our rapidly growing company, and an IT staff already busy implementing and supporting new business software applications, we are delighted to not have to apply the IT resources that would have been required for other competitive solutions that also required higher initial costs, and ongoing software maintenance fees."

The ComplianceVault system is compatible with Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes and virtually any IMAP or POP3 email system, allowing companies to meet a variety of email archiving needs, whether for regulatory compliance (SEC 17a-4, NASD 3110, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, etc.), for legal e-discovery, or simply for good business practice in electronic records management. The Imation ComplianceVault appliance is available in several capacities ranging from 320GB to 1TB of disk storage and in two tape backup formats, VXA and LTO Ultrium™ systems, including LTO Ultrium 3 with WORM capability.

"Exabyte is very excited to be participating with Imation in the ComplianceVault solution," said Bob Ariniello, vice president, strategic OEM key accounts, Exabyte. "Our award winning VXA and LTO tape automation solutions have been specifically designed for SMB customers and their extremely high reliability will help to ensure that the archiving appliance will operate with the highest data integrity possible."

The Imation ComplianceVault archiving appliance is available immediately through CDW at prices starting at under $10,000 for the integrated package which includes the ComplianceVault solution (a 1U Intel server platform with embedded ComplianceVault software from Intradyn and a choice of internal disk capacity ranging from 320GB to 1TB), a choice of either VXA or LTO tape automation from Exabyte as well as rackmount rails, cables and other accessories.

"Small and medium-sized businesses, particularly in the health care and financial services industries, have significant compliance challenges," said Andrew Loughlin, storage specialty team manager, CDW. "CDW is responding to their needs by providing easy access to storage solution experts and by working with leading companies such as Imation to help organizations protect and preserve their information assets."
