Hitachi Data Systems Brings New Flexibility To Storage Network Design With A High-Performance 64-Port Switch From Brocade
Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BRCD) today announced that Hitachi Data Systems is adding the Brocade SilkWorm 4900 Storage Area Network (SAN) switch to its portfolio of networked storage solutions. Hitachi Data Systems now offers its customers access to a complete family of 4 Gbit/sec Fibre Channel SAN connectivity products built on a common system architecture.
Built on proven 4 Gbit/sec SAN technology, the high-performance Brocade SilkWorm 4900 fabric switch is capable of scaling from 32 to 64 ports in a single domain. The new switch is designed for a wide range of storage networking applications, including use as a cost-effective edge switch in core-to-edge designs that require high fan-out ratios and as a standalone switch with mid- to high-end storage arrays. The SilkWorm 4900 meets stringent enterprise requirements for high reliability and availability while increasing scalability by delivering flexible Ports on Demand capabilities.
Hitachi Data Systems is offering the SilkWorm 4900 high-end switch along with its family of intelligent network storage controllers: the Hitachi TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform, the TagmaStore Network Storage Controller, and its midrange line of Adaptable Modular Storage systems delivering rich, advanced functionality traditionally available only with high-end storage.
"The Brocade SilkWorm 4900 switch complements the capabilities of the complete line of our industry-leading line of intelligent virtual storage controllers and enables us to deliver Application Optimized Storage solutions that meet customer business needs while making it easier to buy, install, configure, and manage the SAN environment," said Scott Genereux, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Worldwide Sales, Marketing, and Support at Hitachi Data Systems. "Our continued partnership with Brocade, leveraging its advanced SAN technology, strengthens Hitachi Data Systems' commitment to deliver best-of-breed storage technology to midrange and enterprise customers."
"Brocade and Hitachi Data Systems are aligned in our commitment to help enterprises of all sizes manage their growing volumes of information," said Tom Buiocchi, Brocade Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Support. "We continue to work together to provide high-performance connectivity solutions that link server and storage resources to create a foundation for the data center of the future."
The Brocade SilkWorm family offers the industry's most extensive selection of networked storage connectivity products, ranging from highly available enterprise-class directors to edge switches and management tools. Brocade SilkWorm products are designed to concurrently support multiple hosts and operating systems, enabling multiple servers to connect to multiple storage systems from Hitachi Data Systems as well as other vendors. This flexible product family helps facilitate the consolidation of information onto fewer storage systems for improved management, protection, and availability.
The Brocade SilkWorm 4900 SAN switch is now generally available from Hitachi Data Systems.
