DSI And Formula Consultants OEM Deal Delivers High-Performance Virtual Tape Library Solutions For Enhanced Data Backup For The Unisys OS2200 Mainframe

(FCI), leading developer of proven media management solutions for the Unisys OS2200 operating system. The partnership will allow DSI to package its virtual tape libraries (VTL) with FCI's STAR media and library management software for mainframe tape applications, including data backup and recovery in the Unisys OS2200 operating system market.

DSI's VTL solution ensures error-free backups and allows users to conveniently deploy backup acceleration and data encryption services in the backup environment without changing the configuration of their physical tape library. For Unisys OS2200 systems the VTL is controlled by FCI's STAR-1100 and new STAR LibraryManager software. DSI's VTL utilizes disk to enhance backup performance and reliability, encrypt the physical tape cartridge in the background without impacting backup speed, and provision additional virtual tape drives to the backup system to accommodate additional or concurrent backup/restore sessions.

The DSI VTL provides off-host encryption and replication, which enables users to easily tighten security and comply with government regulations. It includes flexible host connectivity, and with FCI, it now provides seamless integration with existing backup processes in the Unisys OS2200 operating environment. With FCI's media and library management software, the DSI VTL significantly reduces administrative time and costs by running multiple concurrent backup jobs to deliver dramatically faster backups and centralizing management of backup resources at an easy-to-use operator interface.
