Data Storage Solutions: QLogic SANbox 6142 Intelligent Storage Router Now Available Through EMC Select Program
SANbox 6142 Router EMC E-Lab Qualified With EMC CLARiiON Networked Storage Systems
QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), the leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs), stackable switches and blade server switches, recently announced that EMC Corporation will expand its resale of QLogic Network Platform products to include the new QLogic SANbox 6142 intelligent storage router, which is now available through the EMC Select Program. This program enables customers to purchase best-in-class information infrastructure components directly from EMC and its partners. In addition to the SANbox 6142, selected QLogic host bus adapters and switches are also offered through the EMC Select Program.
The SANbox 6142, qualified as EMC E-Lab Tested with EMC CLARiiON networked storage systems, features SmartWrite wide area network (WAN) optimization technology. It offers high performance for long haul replication applications using EMC MirrorView and EMC SAN Copy software. This makes it an ideal fit in business continuity and disaster recovery solutions requiring remote mirroring of data.
"By offering innovative EMC E-Lab Tested products like the QLogic SANbox 6142 storage router, we are able to give our customers proven tools for effective data management and protection," said Sean Kinney, Director of EMC Select. "The SANbox 6142 provides an optimized solution for our current EMC MirrorView and EMC SAN Copy users. The addition of this router to EMC Select makes it easier for our customers to acquire qualified partner technologies in order to develop and deploy end-to-end business continuity solutions."
SANbox 6142 Intelligent Storage Routers- Making SAN-over-WAN
Connectivity Easy
The 6142 features SmartWrite, the QLogic patent-pending technology for
accelerating and bridging SANs over WANs. The 6142 provides
SAN-over-WAN connection infrastructure for EMC MirrorView and EMC
SANCopy to support disaster recovery, replication and volume copy
services over WANs. Using SmartWrite's Layer III (SCSI layer) routing,
the SANbox 6142 is able to perform SAN bridging over WANs without
having to merge SAN Fabrics. By maintaining SAN Fabric independence,
the 6142 improves SAN scalability and lowers management overhead. The
6142 sets a new price performance benchmark in the industry for
SAN-over-WAN connection. Leading applications for the 6142 are volume
replication over the WAN and backup and replication of data for
regulatory support.
The SANbox 6142's SmartWrite technology is an intelligent routing technology and it understands not only how to move the data from one point to another, but also how to optimize that transfer. It is the only intelligent SAN-over-WAN protocol to leverage iSCSI Layer 3 routing. This allows SmartWrite to not only optimize transfers over the WAN, but also to simplify configuration and management. SmartWrite:
- Eliminates double addressing of SAN devices required by iFCP
- Eliminates the need to have unique names on each SAN
- Leverages the WAN resources for resiliency and encryption
"The SANbox 6142, with our patent-pending SmartWrite technology, will help to change the way SANs are connected over wide area networks," said Frank Berry, vice president of marketing, QLogic Corp. "Our partnership with EMC brings the industry's leading solutions to EMC customers in a qualified and proven model that makes implementation simple and trusted."
