Data Deduplication: ExaGrid CTO Discusses Approaches To Data De-Duplication At Storage Networking World 2007

ExaGrid Systems, Inc., the leader in cost-effective and scalable disk-based backup solutions with byte-level data de-duplication, recently announced that David Therrien, founder and CTO, presented as part of a panel moderated by Arun Taneja, founder and consulting analyst, Taneja Group, titled, "The Varied Approaches to Data De-Duplication - Which Approach is Right for You?" at Storage Networking World 2007 in Dallas, TX on October 15. Participants in this session learned about the different methodologies and technologies for de-duplicating data and the appropriate environments for each.

As many backup products with data de-duplication have now been rolled out, the discussion will revolve around the different approaches that exist today and how they compare to one another. In addition, the session addressed the differences between post-process and inline data de-duplication, and the pros and cons of each.

As a result of participating in this session, attendees were able to:

  • Understand the different approaches to data de-duplication so that they can start to determine the right model for their particular environments;
  • Discuss the important pros/cons of each approach to data de-duplication so that they can predict and measure the operational impact the technology may have on their environments; and
  • Gain insight on the questions they should ask of vendors in order to know how to meet their current and future data protection needs.
