CA's New eTrust Secure Content Manager r8 Protects Against Data Confidentiality Breaches, Web, And Messaging Threats

CA (NYSE: CA) today announced eTrust Secure Content Manager (eTrust SCM) r8, a single, unified gateway solution that helps safeguard enterprises from data confidentiality breaches, Web and messaging threats from a central management console.

eTrust SCM r8 secures, monitors, filters and blocks potential threats from messaging and Web traffic. It guards against viruses, spam, phishing, P2P file sharing, malicious mobile code and spyware. It also helps prevent against outbound transmission of confidential information and proprietary intellectual property, enabling enterprises to both more effectively comply with data confidentiality regulations and enforce corporate email policies.

"CA's mission is to make IT simpler, more efficient and more cost effective," said Brian E. Burke, research manager, IDC's Security Products. "CA's integrated threat management product line is focused on providing enterprises with integrated, policy-based content security. eTrust SCM builds on CA's integrated threat management strengths while taking content security to the next level and offering all-around protection for corporate networks."

eTrust SCM r8 includes four new anti-spam engines that prevent spam using DNS blacklists, heuristic filtering, Bayesian analysis, digital signatures and collaborative filtering. For every new message, the spam identification engines utilize more than 300,000 algorithms and rules to identify spam with a near-zero false positive rate. Enhanced layers of spam filtering include sender "reputation," embedded URL filtering, malformed email detection and an evasion techniques dictionary.

eTrust SCM r8 helps prevent employees from purposely or unknowingly accessing malicious sites. By blocking peer-to-peer file sharing protocol through a commonly used protocol, eTrust SCM r8 also reduces exposure to the legal liabilities that can result from the sharing of copyrighted material.

"Our customers are looking for a simple, unified solution to help them cost-effectively meet the increasingly complex challenges associated with content security," said Christine Corley, executive vice president, Operations at Zones, a leading single-source direct marketing reseller of name-brand information technology products. "eTrust SCM r8 fulfills this requirement—enabling them to better protect themselves without pulling IT staff away from strategic IT initiatives."

By leveraging CA's Identity and Access Management Toolkit—part of the CA Integration Platform—eTrust SCM r8 can take advantage of information stored within LDAP repositories to automatically determine employees roles and responsibilities, and minimize security administration costs.

Additional features in eTrust SCM r8 include:

  • The ability to scan more than 200 different attachment file types, including executables, multimedia, image and documents up to 2GB in size—with larger attachments parked in a "safe-window"
  • Enhanced reporting that provides customizable views into Internet activity, transmission of confidential data and unauthorized use of corporate equipment
  • Enhanced Active Directory support that facilitates policy enforcement and regulatory compliance
  • An easy-to-use, web-based interface that enables users to search and manage quarantined emails in real time
"The new real-time user self-management feature in eTrust SCM r8 is a critical time-saver for us," said Yves Morin, assistant director IT Research, BIMCOR Inc., the investment management arm of the Bell Canada Enterprise, Inc. companies. "Our financial analysts manage in excess of $11 billion in assets and because we deal with pharmaceuticals, having our users personally allow/deny emails significantly reduces the incidence of false positives. The ability of eTrust SCM to protect us from data confidentiality breaches and exposure to email-related legal liabilities is an added assurance."
