Archive Solutions: Plasmon Introduces Archive File Manager To Address Rapid File Management Growth And Backup Management Issues

Plasmon, the trusted source in archiving solutions, recently announced the introduction of the Archive File Manager which pulls static data off NAS and SAN-based storage and migrates or copies it to Plasmon's UDO Archive Appliance or the Enterprise Active Archive.

The Plasmon Archive File Manager gathers critical information from file systems about storage capacity levels and data usage to provide businesses with a clear understanding of how their primary storage is utilized and the types of data actually stored. This gives users the knowledge to ensure they are in compliance with industry regulations as well as providing higher operational efficiencies for the business. The Archive File Manager also eliminates backup issues associated with static data by automatically migrating it to an archive tier that provides low-cost, secure retention on permanent storage. These benefits are attained using an agentless deployment architecture with seamless application access.

"Unstructured data represents more than 75 percent of all data that needs to be archived, and the majority of this resides in standard unmanaged files in NAS and SAN environments," said Mike Koclanes, Chief Strategy Officer and senior vice president of sales, Plasmon. "Although more than 50 percent of this type of data will never be accessed, businesses keep it on expensive primary storage, causing unmanageable backup issues, and leaving critical data vulnerable. Plasmon's Archive File Manager is specifically designed to help customers effectively manage this problem with a smart file system archiving solution."

The Archive File Manager provides a long-term, compliant WORM archive that can also provide businesses with a second removable copy for disaster recovery purposes. It has a wizard-based interface for first-time system setup, maintenance, monitoring, and administration. A web-based, Windows console supports remote management.

Plasmon's Archive File Manager is the result of a partnership with ARKIVIO to provide businesses with an easier way to discover static files and fixed content on a NAS filer. It is available in both Standard and Expanded Editions. The Standard Edition is designed for customers who already know which data needs to be archived, and do not require the Archive File Manager's discovery and classification capabilities. The Expanded Edition adds discovery, data classification, and report generation.

The Archive File Manager will be available in November and will be sold through certified Plasmon resellers. For more information, visit the Plasmon website www.plasmon.comor call 800-451-6845.
