Addonics External Port Multiplier Quintuples eSATA Storage On Any System Via A Single eSATA Port

Addonics Technologies recently announced its 5x1 External Port Multiplier (EPM), for attaching five external eSATA drives to any computer via a single eSATA host port with a maximum data throughput of 3 Gbps.

The high performance of the Addonics EPM is perfect for data or video-intensive applications such as RAID arrays as well as digital content and high-definition video storage.

The attached hard drives can be configured as RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, combined as one large volume, or configured as five individual drives. Up to 20 eSATA hard drives or optical drives can be instantly attached to any system by installing four Addonics EPMs and an Addonics 4-port eSATA PM compatible controller.

The hot swap capability of the Addonics EPM allows external hard drives to be attached or removed from the system while the system continues operating. The EPM is constructed in a heavy gauge metal housing with ventilation on the side for efficient heat dissipation. At only 5.32 x 2.56 x .98 inches (W x D x H) it can be easily installed in various computing environments.

The Addonics EPM capitalizes on the increased bandwidth provided by the SATA II 3Gbps signaling speed and is also backwards compatible with 1.5Gbps controllers. Full support is also offered for Frame Information Structure (FIS) switching and command-based switching SATA host controllers, which provides faster throughput because the EPM can execute commands and transfer data to multiple drives concurrently.

The Addonics EPM is Operating System independent. The EPM works with eSATA port that is Port Multiplier compatible, or controllers with FIS switching and supports any eSATA hard drive or optical drive.

The Addonics 5X1 External eSATA Port Multiplier (Model # AD5ESAPM-E) has a MSRP of $95 (US). It is available through the Addonics online store www.shopaddonics.com, major catalog companies, resellers, VARs and distributors, including Amazon.com, PC Connection, CDW, Buy.com, Provantage.com, Insight, and Ingram Micro.
