FC Access provides Storage Virtualization SAN volume management software when used with Raidtec FibreArray® HI12 or FibreArray AA SAN Storage Arrays. FC Access operates transparently from the storage array solving compatibility and interoperability issues especially in multi-host heterogeneous environments.

Storage Virtualization is one of the many benefits created by the merger of network and storage technology into Storage Area Networks (SANs). Storage Virtualization treats a storage pool as a resource to be divided, tuned, allocated, and access-managed transparently according to individual server and application needs. Storage Virtualization enables and compliments many other highly valuable storage applications including: redundancy, clustering, storage consolidation, on-line archive management, load balancing and replication management, as well as the physical side of storage resource management. FC Access allows each volume to be allocated and dedicated or shared securely on a per worldwide name basis. Key features include:
- Volume Management – FC Access Firmware allows Multiple Virtual Volume support for up to 16 RAID volumes per array. Each volume can be mapped or masked on a per node (World Wide Name) basis. Volumes can be shared or isolated transparently to each server on the SAN.
- Storage Resident Virtualization – Eliminates performance bottlenecks, compatibility and revision control issues associated with host based or "black box" solutions by providing volume control direct from the storage controller.
- SAN Management Software – Easily configured and Managed volume assignment or isolation locally through FC Raidman or network wide with SANfinity™ Enterprise wide SAN management software.
- Compatibility – Fully compatible and interoperable with third party file sharing software including SANergy and Fibreshare. FC Access is Compatible with an array of clustering software including: Microsoft, Veritas Legato, IBM, HP, SUN as well as others. FC Access is also fully compatible with a broad variety of LAN Free and Serverless back-up software products as well as Highground and most other Storage Resource Management software.
