InMage Systems Expands Into New Markets With 5.1 Software Release

InMage®, the leading independent software vendor of disk-based, business application recovery solutions for disaster recovery, recently announced InMage Scout 5.1, the newest version of its flagship software. The 5.1 release provides enhanced support for larger environments, including multi tenancy features for managed service provider (MSP) customers and improved scalability, platform coverage and ease of use which apply to all InMage software products. InMage Scout now also includes support for Sun Solaris operating system environments.

InMage Scout is a single platform that supports transparent backup, disaster recovery (DR) from catastrophic failures within minutes, and automated application failover/failback for faster, more reliable restoration of application services. Built upon next generation technologies like continuous data protection (CDP), asynchronous replication, recovery automation and WAN optimization, InMage Scout allows customers to completely dispense with backup as a discrete operation and move to a "continuous backup" paradigm. This approach eliminates backup windows, supports very granular recovery capabilities and optimizes WAN efficiency for DR configurations. Data is protected as soon as it is created, a very important consideration for customers in vertical markets like legal services, financial services, healthcare, emergency services, government, manufacturing, and others. Solutions commonly deployed by InMage customers include remote disaster recovery, backup consolidation, and remote office backups.

5.1 adds a number of key features to InMage's recovery platform:

  • Increased platform coverage through support for Sun 64-bit Solaris running on both SPARC and Intel x86 platforms; this also covers other key components of the Solaris operating environment, such as Sun Volume Manager and UFS, VERITAS Volume Manager and File System, and ZFS pools; Solaris support is added to the existing support for Windows and Linux
  • Increased management scalability from the new RX Enterprise Dashboard, a centralized monitoring and reporting server that provides a single point of management for large configurations that span multiple geographical locations and/or InMage appliances
  • Push installation support which provides for remote installation and maintenance from within the centralized Enterprise Dashboard for all servers that are being protected within an InMage deployment; these features are particularly valuable for MSP and other larger customers
  • A new software architecture that allows software engines for I/O processing and InMage Scout management to be deployed separately as needed to meet scalability requirements, providing more flexible scalability options

InMage is a Sun Advantage Partner, and InMage's Solaris-based solutions are already available in the marketplace from Sun channel partners like FusionStorm, Integrated Archive, and others. InMage products are fully qualified to work with all Sun server products running Solaris and Linux, as well as all Sun storage products.

"A high percentage of our existing customers are leveraging InMage Scout across multiple application environments and were looking to expand their usage further," said John Ferraro, President and CEO of InMage Systems. "With the scalability and ease of use enhancements we've introduced with 5.1, we are providing a much more powerful architecture that increases recovery automation and the span of administrative control from a single pane of glass while meeting the I/O performance requirements of the largest enterprises."

"InMage's hybrid recovery architecture, with its extremely low overhead on protected servers, is already a good fit for managed service providers looking to enhance the disaster recovery options of mid market customers within the cloud," said Arun Taneja, senior analyst and founder of The Taneja Group. "With the multi-tenancy enhancements of 5.1 – in particular the centralized monitoring and reporting server called the RX – InMage makes the deployment and management of multi tiered service offerings simpler and more cost-effective for MSPs. This release should generate some interest among that community."

InMage Scout 5.1 upgrades are immediately available worldwide from InMage's network of OEM and channel partners.
