Community Food Share To Supply Five Million Meals To Local Residents

Community Food Share (CFS) efficiently delivers more than four million nutritionally balanced meals each year to food-insecure Boulder and Broomfield county residents through distribution by more than 60 member agencies. The local non-profit is able to convert a single dollar into four meals for children and families in the area. Community Food Share's 2008 goal is to supply five million meals in 2008—up from the 4.5 million distributed in 2007.

Spectra Logic associates selected Longmont-based Community Food Share as its corporate charity for 2008, and are now volunteering time, and hosting a food and monetary donations drive at Spectra's Boulder-based headquarters, to support CFS's mission: to ensure that people in Boulder and Broomfield counties are food secure.

Thanks to community support, CFS is on track to distribute 20 percent more food than was distributed this time last year.

"Community Food Share depends on local retailers, manufacturers, national food industry sources and community food drive donations to maintain its food supply," said Ishan Sinha, CFS's assistant development director. "Our 60 Member Agencies can then select donated food items from the warehouse's inventory and distribute food items based on the needs of the clients they serve."

Community Food Share has several open volunteer opportunities including: drivers, cashiers, food sorters, and meal deliveries.

"Spectra Logic associates join each holiday season to support a local non-profit in the Boulder region, so we may give back to the great community where we were founded in 1979," said Leigh Grace, Spectra Logic's public relations manager. "This year, Spectra will support its chosen charity, Community Food Share, to help impoverished community members this holiday season."
