Bluelock Announces Upgrade To VMware vCloud Director 1.5

New release delivers increased agility, while making it easier for customers to adopt a cloud computing model leveraging their existing IT investments

Bluelock, a certified VMware vCloud Datacenter provider of Virtual Datacenters hosted in the public cloud, recently announced the availability of VMware vCloud Director 1.5 within its certified VMware vCloud Datacenter Service.

With the upgrade of its public cloud to vCloud Director 1.5, Bluelock will provide its customers an updated user interface and added functionality for more efficient and secure management of virtual datacenters hosted in the public cloud.

VMware vCloud Director and VMware vSpherepool datacenter resources including compute, storage and networking into virtual datacenters, offered to users on-demand, enabling IT organizations to build private clouds and move workloads back and forth between their private cloud and the Bluelock vCloud Datacenter service. VMware vCloud Director 1.5 enhancements now accessible to Bluelock clients:

• Self-service virtual private network (VPN) - Users will now be able to configure and manage their VPN configurations from within the vCloud Director General User Interface (GUI).
• Automatic VPN (vCloud Director to vCloud Director) - Networks can be securely and automatically linked between two Virtual Datacenters.
• Full source-based firewall rules - Users can specify source IP addresses and ports when creating firewall policies.
• vCloud API 1.5 - The vCloud Director API has been enhanced to support more features and better integration.
• vApp Custom Attributes - A VMware vSphere vApp can now be assigned custom attributes (metadata) which can help with better automation and customization of deployments.
• Network card control - Some virtual appliances require specific network adapters. vCloud Director 1.5 allows full control of the virtual network interface cards (NICs) that are assigned to a virtual machine (VM).

Bluelock Virtual Datacenters take minutes to set up, either through the vCloud Director-based self-service interface or with Bluelock's managed services team. Customers can build new virtual machines (VMs) quickly from public and private catalogs of VM templates, or simply upload VMs they already have running in an environment. With Bluelock Virtual Datacenters, customers can easily add or remove capacity as they go, paying for only what is used. With the ability to upload and download any VMware-compatible workloads, customers can easily migrate to and from the Bluelock Virtual Datacenter via VMware vCloud Connector.
