RAID: Levanta's Intrepid S Sets Benchmark Price-Point For Linux Data Center Automation

Levanta, the leader in Linux data center automation, recently announced the availability of the Intrepid S, targeted at smaller Linux installations. Available out-of-the-box with internal 1TB RAID array for shared storage and requiring no extra hardware, the S offers smaller Linux server farms the same enterprise-proven monitoring and policy-based server lifecycle automation functionality as the Intrepid M and X.

Smaller Linux installations, most with limited IT resources, often cannot justify the expense and long implementation time of traditional, enterprise-class system management solutions. As a result, prior to the Intrepid S, these smaller environments had to either deal with the inefficiency and pain of error-prone manual system administration processes or struggle to integrate several un-supported, open source point solutions for Linux management. Both of these scenarios offer less than desirable options for those tasked with managing the Linux server farms, especially if the system configurations need to change frequently.

With the Intrepid S, Levanta answers this challenge. Ideal for environments with high rates of change, such as development and testing labs, pre-production staging environments, classrooms and disaster recovery sites, the Intrepid S can re-purpose Linux systems in under 5 minutes without any data loss or extensive manual labor. The Intrepid S leverages Levanta's unique state-based transactional methodology for provisioning, change management, patching, roll-back and system recovery.

The S also enables quick and easy migration of the entire software stack - OS, middleware & applications - between physical and/or virtual servers, transparently. It allows for rapid, error-free deployment of development stacks into production and recovery of broken systems, even unbootable ones, using Levanta's file-level restore capabilities. The S also provides real-time monitoring combined with a configurable rules engine that can automatically remediate operational conditions. With the Intrepid S, sys admins can minimize time-consuming manual processes to keep track of the health of their Linux servers without breaking the bank.

In addition to using the Intrepid M or X in production environments, most Levanta customers, such as Fujitsu-Siemens, LA Metro and Third Screen Media use the Intrepid S in their development/staging labs. Educational institutions such as the City University of New York (CUNY) use the S in classroom settings.

"The challenges of Linux system management are not limited to large enterprise data center environments." said Anil Uberoi, Chief Marketing Officer at Levanta. "Small Linux environments also feel the pain of Linux-specific management challenges, like massive heterogeneity of distributions, the sheer volume of hardware and a high rate of change. The Intrepid S brings affordable, enterprise-grade systems management, monitoring, and automation functionality to small, specialized environments and frees up sys admins from fighting fires to focus on more productive endeavors."

The Intrepid S with 10 managed-server licenses is priced at $4,995. Additional server licenses can be purchased separately. The S can also be field-upgraded (via a software upgrade) to the Intrepid M, the NAS-attached model, capable of managing several hundred servers.
