Digital Reef Releases First Portable eDiscovery Offering

New Capability Allows Unique, Next-Generation Level of Collaboration between Enterprises, Law Firms and Service Providers

Digital Reef (www.digitalreefinc.com), a leading software provider of the first massively scalable and open software for eDiscovery and digital information governance, recently announced that the new release of its eDiscovery software brings a totally new approach to identifying, analyzing, collecting, and reviewing electronic documents in place within the enterprise. The new Portable Collections capability enables users to quickly create large case-specific portable matters that can be easily distributed to eDiscovery data centers of legal service providers, enterprise companies and law firms. This gives immediate and direct access to help the entire legal team determine the potential relevancy of electronic documents, and develop litigation strategies earlier in the case assessment process without needing to make costly investments in technology or manpower. Enterprise companies can now partner and collaborate with legal service providers to establish proactive early case assessments (ECA) and establish risk strategies. Law firms benefit by having review-ready collections. Because the software can operate behind an enterprise firewall, it makes the entire process easy to deploy since it does not require data to be copied or moved.

"Enterprise customers bringing e-discovery in-house want a variety of deployment and execution options. Digital Reef's Portable Collections offers versatility and speed in serving different litigation scenarios and data collection requirements as companies develop a customized internal business process, and determine what functions can be performed internally versus what should still be outsourced to a trusted provider," said Katey Wood, Analyst, the 451 Group.

The Digital Reef eDiscovery Portable Collections feature creates a "package matter" containing virtual indexes, complete search meta-data and tags, analytic collections and views, and selected files within a case. This package may then be archived and restored later or moved into another Digital Reef environment. Legal service providers can potentially use the Portable Collections at an enterprise company for onsite identification, ECA and collections services and then load that information into a data center with previously built indexes and content still intact. With this capability, Digital Reef is providing a way for enterprises to bring eDiscovery in-house easily for collection and ECA at a lower cost and early in the EDRM process. Therefore, the enterprise can adopt a more proactive, behind the firewall approach to eDiscovery.

CEO of Precise, Inc., Peter L. Mansmann, Esq. stated, "Using Digital Reef's software, we're able to provide our corporate clients with legally defensible, full scale, on-site collection and processing services at significantly faster speeds and lower costs than traditional on-site eDiscovery work. This really is a revolution to the status quo."

Demonstrating the power and speed behind Digital Reef's software, Precise, Inc. recently became the first service provider to engage the new portable capability to assist one of the nation's leading manufacturers of large specialty trucks and service vehicles to fulfill a discovery request. Working under an unusually tight deadline, Precise's eDiscovery team deployed Digital Reef's eDiscovery software on-site, where they installed, indexed and processed the corporation's 3.1 terabytes of data in under two days, before searching the resulting dataset and producing Concordance load files for delivery to counsel for document review. The entire project took a total of only seven days to complete and reportedly cost the client approximately half of what the project would have cost otherwise, according to bids submitted for the same work by other eDiscovery vendors.

"This changes the game for eDiscovery within the enterprise. Now, law firms and legal service providers can bring the right technology and their expertise to the enterprise to make the eDiscovery and ECA process flexible and cost efficient. Or, the enterprise can choose to do ECA on site themselves on-premise or in the cloud," said David Butler, Vice President of Marketing at Digital Reef. "With this industry-first model, we're the only company providing eDiscovery in three different ways – hosted, on-premise or portable. Our customers get the powerful capabilities of Digital Reef in the way that fits their needs best."

In addition to the Portable Collections, new features of the latest version of the Digital Reef eDiscovery and ECA application include:

  • Interactive reports – Allows users to explore large volumes of data within one click.
  • Enhanced export options – Provides configurable export properties for users to customize production artifacts to fit workflow. Also, users can now generate LST files for use with review platforms such as kCura Relativity.
  • Application guide – Configurable guide puts best practices and getting started information at end-users fingertips for step-by-step eDiscovery and ECA.
  • Automated custodian generator – Creates a custodian entry and assigns all documents with named sub-directories.

Digital Reef will be hosting a webinar featuring Katey Wood, an analyst with the 451 Group and Peter Mansmann, CEO of Precise, Inc. The discussion will focus on how to reduce increasing litigation costs and risks, improve OGC and law firm satisfaction and ultimately move to a more proactive eDiscovery strategy. The webinar will take place on Wednesday, October 13 at 1pm EDT/10am PDT. For more information or to attend, visit http://www.digitalreefinc.com/resources/webinars/451-ediscovery.
